GAS SAVING IDEAS
FROM
Roberts Chevrolet Buick
Here are a few gas saving ideas to save money at the pump!

Idea #1: Cruise Control
Use your cruise control! Most people use this feature when they are tired or when on a long vacation trips but driving with cruise control  is going to help your mileage

Idea#2: Lower speeds saves you gas
I think some of us have forgotten what those black and white speed limit signs mean. Staying at or below the posted speed limit will help your fuel economy tremendously.

Idea#3: Don’t fill up every time
By only filling the tank half way up you are reducing the overall payload of the vehicle. By only filling half way up, you could be saving 50-100 pounds of weight that isn’t necessary; especially in vehicles with large fuel tanks.

Idea#4: Fill your tank at the coolest part of day
Fuel is denser during the early morning or late at night times. The colder the fuel is when you pump it, the more you get for the same amount of funds. You may be receiving less fuel for filling up in hotter parts of the day.

Idea#5: Remove the junk from the trunk
Take out the five bags of sand from the last ice storm; remove all the ice scrapers, the kid's baseball bags and all the unnecessary items that we normally don’t need year around.  Reducing the weight again puts less payload in the vehicle resulting in better fuel economy.

Idea#6: Multiple cars and car pooling with friends and family
If you have multiple vehicles in the home figure which one will get the best miles per gallon. Try to share or drive the one with the best fuel mileage or even purchase a economical commuter car for the household. Carpool with the household commuter car.. Many commuter cars are very reasonable price and have a lower operating cost. Set up a schedule with family, friends or co workers to take advantage of car pooling

Idea#7 Check your tire pressure
Each time you stop to get gas; pull out the tire pressure gauge and check all four tires. Gas mileage is decreased by improper inflation. All it will save you money in maintenance costs because a properly inflated tire will last longer also.

Idea#8 Use synthetic oil
Synthetic oil is great for engines, and it can aid in saving a little bit of gas. It will not be a huge notice at the pump each week but it will definitely aid the fuel economy and if you are already considering the switch speak with service advisor about other benefits of using synthetic oil.

Idea#9 Keep your vehicle well tuned.
Check the mileage of your last tune up, has it been a while? If it has been a while you need to call the service department and schedule a appointment, a nicely maintained vehicle not only aids in fuel mileage savings but it will aid in replacement and mainetainence costs later down the line. Fuel filters, air filters, and tune ups all effect gas mileage.

Idea#10 Higher octane or a fuel booster additive
Higher octane or a fuel booster additive could more than likely not give you the returns in increased fuel economy for the money spent. Most companies make unreal claims on what type miles per gallon you will receive from their product. Run your own test to decide for yourself. Our vehicles are designed to achieve maximum fuel economy on the intended octane listed for the vehicle. If it requires premium, give the vehicle premium and if it requires regular you are better off using regular. Check your owner’s manual or speak with your sales consultant or service advisor about the correct octane fuel.
